Mary Rayme
Mary Rayme is a graphic designer and arts educator with a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
Determined to be a librarian (or at least someone swimming in books) Mary worked in the libraries of the Baltimore Museum of Art and Johns Hopkins University. Later, Mary was lured by the idea of a bigger paycheck to work in the field of publishing & advertising in Baltimore, then later in Philadelphia. Ms. Rayme worked as a print buyer, graphic designer, and art director in direct mail and medical publishing.
Mary lives somewhere in Appalachia and started her own design studio. In 2004, Mary co-wrote and co-produced Inspired Folk: Outsider Artists of West Virginia along with Gerry Milnes. The film was funded through a grant from the the West Virginia Humanities Council and the Augusta Heritage Center.
Mary works as a grants writer and administrator for the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike Alliance, as an ArtsBank artist, as a writer and bookstore clerk. Thinking about art, playing in the woods, and writing about art occupy her brain and time.
As a working artist, Ms. Rayme has a selection of drawings, collages, and mixed media artwork for sale on Etsy. Upcycling and recycling older materials such as books, magazines, and prayer cards, Ms. Rayme's work is quirky and unique. You can also see a more complete set of Rayme's PhotoShop collages and landscape drawings at her personal website.
